"A CODE FOR HOPE AND SILENCE" - Andromeda SPACEWAYS # 73
Raging against the machine, pizza goon, and an algorithm for love.
A version of this story placed second in the 2017 SCI FI LONDON 48 HOUR Flash Fiction competition, where it was titled "Honour Is Everything" |
"the one who walks the permanent way" - A Hand of Knaves
A steampunk tale about machines, human labour, and a mythical man who walks the Permanent Way. |
"Mr Mycelium" - Ecopunk!
A biotech retelling of Jack and the Beanstalk, where our Jack collects some black market fungus spores in return for selling his mother's transgenic cow. Disaster ensues... or does it? (Nominated for the 2018 Australian Ditmar Awards - Best Short Story) |
“The Autumn Dog Cannot Live To Spring” -
|
“Yard” - Use Only As Directed
"A varied mix of 14 speculative fiction stories by some of the best Australian and New Zealand authors in the genre in settings that range from the back yard to the depths of space."
Mine is in the back yard! Inspired a little by our old house. |
"The 92" - CSFG's *NEXT* Anthology
"Sequence. Succession. Cause and effect.
What happened. Next." No prizes here, but this story is the one that most people have come up and told me they really "loved" the best. Another "inspired by true events" demonic tale on VFL football, and my favourite. |
“Warchalking” (with Paul Haines) - Doorways for the Dispossessed, short fiction by Paul HainesThis one we co-wrote during the final week of the Clarion South Writer's Workshop in 2004. It's a bit uneven, we were all suffering from a six-week hangover, but still, we got it done. Jack Dann will probably like to claim credit for this story's existence, as he made us write it! Sadly, Paul passed away in 2012, however his lovely funeral made an dark appearance in "The 92" and I rather thought his ghost was around for one last burst of inspiration...
